What is the Cloud?

What is the Cloud?

What is "the cloud"? Today we hear a lot about storing items in "the cloud" or services being "in the cloud", but what is it? The cloud is simply a network of servers; some servers are used for storage of files while others are used to run applications. Whenever you check your email or login to Facebook, that information is stored in "the cloud". No matter where you are you are able to login from any computer and have access to your research, presentations, project center, client information, etc.
Here are 5 benefits of storing items in the cloud and using a cloud based service:
1.     Access to data anywhere - No matter your location, as long as you have an internet connection and a device you can access your data.
2.     Easy to share data - With many cloud ran applications you are able to send a link to your peers to share your files.
3.     Can get your information on multiple devices - Have a business trip and want to take your iPad instead of your laptop, login to the cloud service and your information is there.
4.     Synchronization of data across devices - Have the same files on your phone as your pc and tablet.
Data will be backed up - We have all had times when our computer has crashed and the files were lost. By storing data on "the cloud" you will have the peace of mind knowing there is a back-up file.
